Is an IKEA Standing Desk Good? What the Specs Say

IKEA's electric IDÅSEN read against its own published size, height, load and warranty, set on the same fair basis beside the Vival Desk for a Singapore home.

IKEA is where a lot of Singapore home offices begin, so a sit-stand desk from the same shelf as the rest of the room is a reasonable place to start looking. This article sets IKEA's electric IDÅSEN next to our own Vival Desk on the same measured rows, using IKEA's own published figures. We have not tested the IKEA desk ourselves, so nothing here rests on our hands on it. What follows is a read of the published specifications, plus the first-hand facts we can stand behind for our own desk.

How we are comparing these two desks

The short answer is that an IKEA sit-stand desk is a solid, well-supported choice, and the right one for you depends on how much you load it, how much room you have and how much you want to spend. IKEA Singapore sells more than one model. Its standing-desks range runs from manual-crank models to several electric ones, the IDÅSEN among them, and the IDÅSEN is the one that lines up like for like with an electric desk such as ours.

Every IKEA figure below is taken from IKEA's own Singapore product page and read on 12 October 2026. Every Vival Desk figure is from our product page and our own records. We put the same rows against both desks, in the same order, so the picture stays fair.

The IDÅSEN figures in this table come from IKEA Singapore's own IDÅSEN product page, read on 12 October 2026. The Vival Desk figures are the ones published on the Vival Desk page.

Height, load and motors

On height, the two desks lean in different directions. IKEA's page gives the IDÅSEN a range of 62 to 127 cm, so its lowest setting falls below the Vival Desk's 72 cm and its highest setting climbs above the Vival Desk's 120 cm. The IDÅSEN's travel is wider at both ends. Both desks move across the range most home setups need, so the question is whether you want those extra centimetres at the very top or the very bottom.

Load is where they part. The IDÅSEN's published maximum is 70 kg. The Vival Desk is rated to 100 kg. If your desk carries a desktop PC, two monitors and the usual clutter, that headroom is the difference worth weighing.

On motors, the Vival Desk uses dual motors, one per leg, which give smoother and more even travel than a single-motor frame. IKEA's product page lists the IDÅSEN as electric and app-controllable through its Desk Control app, but it does not state a motor count, so we leave that row open rather than guess at it. If you want to understand why the number of motors matters, our guide to why a dual-motor frame matters walks through it.

What the desktops are made of

The Vival Desk top is a walnut-finish laminate, which is a printed surface layer bonded onto the board. Here that is a printed walnut grain over a core of MDF (medium-density fibreboard, which is wood fibres pressed into one even board). That is a deliberate choice for a warm look at a fair price, and it is a different thing from a plank of timber. IKEA publishes its own finishes and materials on each product page, so check the IDÅSEN listing for the exact top you are looking at. If you are weighing the trade-offs, our explainer on engineered wood and solid wood sets out what each one is and is not.

Cost, cover and getting it home

IKEA lists the IDÅSEN's current price on its own product page, and since that is the figure that moves, that is the honest place to read it. We checked the wider market ourselves instead of quoting a stale number. When we read the brands' own price lists on 10 October 2026, six dual-motor standing desks sold in Singapore, from two brands, ran from S$329 to S$1,760. That is the spread a dual-motor desk sits inside today.

The Vival Desk is S$289 with code VIVAL60 (list S$349), with free delivery across Singapore and no location surcharge. We aim to dispatch within 2 business days of payment and deliver 2 to 3 business days after that, typically 2 to 5 working days in all. Every Vival Desk carries a one-year warranty from delivery against manufacturing defects, with the motor and drive mechanism repaired at no cost for a genuine defect. IKEA's own figure above is a ten-year guarantee on the IDÅSEN, which is the longer cover, and that is worth putting on the scale honestly.

When the IKEA desk is the better buy

An IKEA sit-stand desk suits you if you want a larger working surface, since the IDÅSEN's 120 x 70 cm top gives more depth than our 120 x 60. It suits you if you want a desk that drops very low, because its range reaches down to 62 cm, below most electric desks. It suits you if a long guarantee matters most, given the ten-year cover IKEA publishes, and it suits you if you like buying the desk, the shelving and the rest of the room from one place and carrying it home the same day.

When the Vival Desk is the better buy

The Vival Desk suits you if you load a desk heavily, because its 100 kg rating leaves room for a desktop PC and two monitors. It suits a smaller room, since the 120 x 60 top tucks against a wall and still fits a dual-monitor setup, which is why we think a 120 by 60 top fits an HDB room. It suits you if you want dual motors for even, quiet travel, and if free delivery across Singapore and a quick build matter. On that last point, the Vival Desk ships flat-packed and most people finish in about thirty to forty-five minutes. As our FAQ puts it, if you have put together IKEA furniture before, it is that simple.

Making the call

So, is an IKEA standing desk good? For a home office, yes, and the honest way to choose is to weigh three things. If you want the biggest top, the lowest setting or the longest guarantee, IKEA's published figures point to the IDÅSEN. If you want the higher 100 kg load, dual motors, a compact footprint for an HDB room and free Singapore delivery with a fast build, the Vival Desk is built for that. Read both makers' own pages, match the numbers to your room and your gear, and the right desk is the one whose specifications fit how you actually work.
